Job Description:
The candidate must have a thorough understanding of mechanical system distributions for industrial/commercial applications to be installed by mechanical contractors. This is a unique position seeking a mechanical engineering candidate that can support our Nashville, TN mechanical operations, primarily working out of Troy, MI, but with occasional travel to our another office and/or job sites.

Responsibilities:

1. Design and coordinate all mechanical distribution systems meeting project specifications.
2. Occasionally review and oversee layout work performed by un-licensed engineers on staff.
3. Occasionally manage and schedule 3D modelers/2D Drafters (VDC/BIM modelers) on staff.
4. Review, edit, and write project specifications.
5. Generate and/or review production submittals against project specifications.
6. Assist in the estimating process for mechanical contractors by attending walk-throughs, defining scope, and generating bill of materials.

Qualifications:

1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Candidate must have 2-5 years minimum experience with a mechanical contracting company (preferred) and/or Architectural/Engineering firm.
3. Experience with reviewing, editing, and writing project specifications.
4. Experience with generating and/or reviewing production submittals against project specifications.
5. Experience with walk-throughs, defining scope, and generating bill of materials.
6. Self-directed.
7. Candidate must possess strong communication skills.
8. Strong skills in Revit (or other compatible software) are required.

Additional Information:

1. This client will not interview anyone who has worked in the automotive industry as a Mechanical Engineer. They are looking for someone who has worked as a Mechanical Engineer for an Electrical Contractor.
2. This position is hands-on. Although design work is involved, being on-site and seeing projects come to fruition is also a requirement.
3. Travel: minimal (10-20%).
4. Travel locations: Visit job sites in MI, OH, IN, TN, and other locations as required.

Must Have

1. Mechanical Engineering Degree (not mechanical technology).
2. Candidate must have 5 years minimum experience (not looking for candidates with 25-30 years' experience) with a mechanical contracting company (preferred) and/or Architectural/Engineering firm.
3. Revit proficiency – must be able to hit the ground running.
4. Strong experience with piping (hydraulics, pneumatics, conduit, etc.).

Nice to Have

1. PE (Professional Engineer) license.
