The Transmission Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design of transmissions and gear boxes for military ground vehicles including tanks, howitzers, and infantry fighting vehicles. Projects will range in scope from advanced research, development, and testing of future transmissions to failure analysis and incremental improvements of existing products.

Essential Functions:
● Responsible for transmission and transmission sub system design, including analysis, integration, and
performance in the combat vehicle application.
● Develop innovative technical concepts and perform mechanical, hydraulic, and thermal analysis to ensure
new designs meet requirements.
● Develop & release detailed CAD models and drawings and release them for development qualification and
production activity using Engineering Change Proposals.
● Interface with cross functional teams, customers, and suppliers.
● Compose design verification test plans using a Systems Engineering approach that capture all performance
data to assess requirements compliance.
● Plan and oversee qualification activities including bench, dynamometer, and vehicle level testing.
● Lead failure analysis investigations on transmissions and gear boxes.
● Write and present internal & external engineering reports & presentations.
REQUIREMENTS
● Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university required, with minimum 4
years relevant experience (2 years with MS or equivalent).
● Ability to perform mechanical stress and structural engineering calculations, as well as thermal fluids and
heat transfer calculations.
● Transmission or gear box design and development experience. This will include knowledge of mechanical
systems and concepts including:
● Hydraulic systems, control valves, and pumps
● Gear box components such as gears, planetary sets, bearings, clutches, brakes, structural housings, and
shafts
● Transmission performance parameters such as speed, torque, power and gear ratio.
● Proven problem solving and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to lead failure analysis investigations
using established and controlled techniques (8D, Shainin, etc).
● GD&T knowledge, ability to create and read machining and assembly prints, and understanding of bill of
materials and processes to develop them.
● Pro-E / Creo experience.
● Demonstrated ability to make technical decisions, complete project objectives within budget and schedule,
and work with minimal supervision.
● Proven ability to work well in a cross-functional environment including interfacing with program
management, project engineering, test engineering, analysts, and electrical/controls engineering.
● Ability to manage and organize multiple project tasks to meet established deadlines, including tracking
metrics and reporting status of engineering activities.
● Ability to utilize all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
● Must be willing to travel (domestic and foreign) up to 10%.
● Must be able to move freely, with or without reasonable accommodation, throughout a manufacturing
environment.
● Must be capable of obtaining a DOD security clearance if necessary for the program.
